System Configuration GETTING RID OF JUNK!!
Somebody Please Help!!!!!!!
I am kinda new to computers, in March of this year, I purchased, this $950.00 computer (Hp, w/ windows XP). Well, last week somone suggested that I do a check for "spyware", I did and yes I was having a kazillion popups, even when I WASNT on the internet. I found all of the programs, and I found even more in the System Configuration. Here is my problem, when I try to uninstall, a box pops up telling me that I can't b/c, it is copyrighted and/or somone else is using it. In addition in the System Configurations box I don't see any way to delete the stuff that hides in my computer. Did I spend all of this money to be told that I can't delete something, which I did'nt know was even there. It was suggested to download a program called "spyblaster", that is the biggest joke, It came with over 300 pop-ups, (later I was told that , that is called a backdoor program, after, sending them a not so nice e-mail, they finally told me how to remove their so called program. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME TO GET RID OF THIS JUNK IN MY COMPUTER. PLEASE. |

System Configuration GETTING RID OF JUNK!!
Courtney;
Reboot to Safe Mode Reboot, tapping F8 each second, choose Safe Mode at the menu. Then go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the unwanted applications. Run an updated virus scan. Or Scan for Viruses online: http://security.symantec.com/ssc/hom...ZTYMWPAZTJWUFJ Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files" Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-up Run Defrag. Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter Check this link: http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.php Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spywa http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it) Or http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it) -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...oups/setup.asp http://dts-l.org/index.html "courtney" wrote in message ... System Configuration GETTING RID OF JUNK!!
Hi Courtney,
Depending on where the popups are generating from: To disable the Messenger Service: Go to Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Double click the Messenger Service and change Automatic to Disabled, then click the Stop button. Or use this automated edit: Disable Messenger Service (Line 95) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Home PC Firewall Guide http://www.firewallguide.com/ More information and options here on using a Firewall: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_m.htm#ms As for Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup, you shouldn't be getting that error message. If these are worms, you need to kill the process first in the Task Manager. To remove disabled items from Msconfig: Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup (Line 148) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Or...remove the runkeys from he Start/Run/Regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run Troubleshooting, Removing and/or Cleaning Add or Remove Programs http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_a.htm#addremove If that doesn't help, run this small utility and send me the log file via email. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs...upTracker3.zip -- All the Best, Kelly MS-MVP Win98/XP [AE-Windows® XP] Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions and Answers http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm "courtney" wrote in message ...
