Windows 7 64bit Windows Update - KB3021917?

I ran the Windows Update today and 13 of 14 updates were selected for update. One update - KB3021917 - was not selected and was not updated. Anyone know what this update is and why it was not selected? Is it safe to update with it? Thanks Charlie My goodness, did anyone look at the link that Stormin' Norman posted? Yeah, I'm sure some did. But to spell it out, this is hardly needed unless you are thinking about updating to the newer operating systems past Win 7. If installed, it may also offer you to install pre-view software for the newer (or future) operating systems from Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3021917 This is what it says, -------------------- This update performs diagnostics in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) in order to determine whether performance issues may be encountered when the latest Windows operating system is installed. Telemetry is sent back to Microsoft for those computers that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP). This update will help Microsoft and its partners deliver better system performance for customers who are seeking to install the latest Windows operating system. -------------------- Installing this can bring up a message offering you to try a preview of Windows 10. It will then execute a large download in order to preview features of Windows 10. And, as stated above, if you have enabled the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP), it will send information on your computer to the mutha ship; mommy Microsoft. I'll give this a pass, as I have done will all of the pre-sales stuff Microsoft has been offering as updates for the last little while. Ha, it's called, "Update to Windows 7 SP1 for performance improvements". A tempting title to install; phishing at a corporate level, perhaps? |
