Optional Update (KB3102810) ????
Just got notification that two updates were available. One was a
definition update for Windows Defender and other was the subject. Tried getting more info on it and got a page "Try searching for what you need, This page doesn't exist". Curious if anyone else got this one today? Of course since it was an optional I hid it. -- Zo "Tired of working for only $9.75 per hour? We offer profit sharing and flexible hours. I think the hide is wise. I've changed to only taking the suggested/required updates. But I keep watching to make sure they don't do (as I hear they might) start making the win 10 updates mandatory. |

I just booted my win7 machine to look and you're right, there is no info available. Google and Bing don't even show hints. Really odd. |

Win7 KB3102810 Win8.1 KB3102812 This is the quote for 8.1 which is the same as Win7 but worded differently, which means the same thing. *quote* Installing and searching for updates is slow and high CPU usage occurs in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 This article describes an update that contains some improvements for the Windows Update client in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2. This update has a prerequisite. Issues that are fixed in this update Issue 1 When you install Windows updates by using System Center Configuration Manager, the installation takes a long time to complete, and System Center Configuration Manager becomes overloaded. Issue 2 The Svchost.exe process takes 100 percent of the CPU usage when you try to upgrade to Windows 10. *end quote* |

So if the errant wuauserv bug which has been around since WinXP time bites Microsoft on the ass, they'll fix it ("Issue 2"). If it wastes CPU cycles on a customer computer for years and years, they don't give a rats ass. Gotcha. ******* And in unrelated news, Woody has raised his defcon level. http://www.askwoody.com/2015/msdefco...update-locked/ Paul |

I checked, and it has this title: Installing and searching for updates is slow and high CPU usage occurs in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Same here. I clicked on "More info" and was directed to this page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810, which was the page titled what you listed. Go figure ;-) -- SC Tom |
