Default Critical Error - Your Start menu isn't working.

I've been using Windows 10 for several weeks with no issues until
today when I started getting a dialog box with the message "Critical
Error - Your Start menu isn't working. We'' ll try to fix it the next
time you sign in". There is also a "Sign out now" button.

This happens as soon as I click the Start menu button. I've signed
out and in several times and tried a hard boot, all with no luck. An
interesting note is that another account on my PC has no issues (yet)
with the Start menu. Any suggestions? Thanks.

A quick Google brings this up:

Sounds like loads of fun (similar to Win7 and Win8).

Initially my theory was "well, maybe it's a service
that isn't starting". But the more I look at the
symptoms, it's almost like the Start Menu is
an App or something. It appears to be a pretty
brittle design, if people claim that both Avast
and Dropbox have some effect.

Since the problem is "account sensitive", accounts
may also be keeping App-specific information. As Services
should be owned by the machine, and not by the user as such.

And when my search engine finds threads labeled
with "Solved", there is hardly a solution in
the thread. Just a lot of suggested fixes with no
guarantees at all. Apparently "Solved" doesn't
mean what it used to mean.

I seem to remember that on the Insider forums, something like this
change to the start menu as an app was announced at a certain build.

I have to admit that I've almost lost interest in Windows 10, and am
just trying to keep across it to be able to look a bit less stupid when
asked questions by users.

A number of posts and other articles suggested that DropBox might be
the culprit. I uninstalled DropBox, then logged out and back in and
the Start menu is back. I've reinstalled DropBox and no issues so
far. We'll see what happens...

Thanks for your help

Mitch S.
