Google search box on the Taskbar question

When I loaded W7 on my ancient previous computer I ended up with a Google
search box next to the Windows start button on the Taskbar.
My brain is rusting, I can't remember how I did that.
I now have a new computer with W7 and would like to put Google in the same
place again, it was very useful.

Any ideas?

That's Google Desktop. WinXP gave me the option to have it as a Sidebar, on
the desktop, or as part of the Taskbar. Windows 7 will not let me put it on
the taskbar, as you are describing. It is available here, it you would like
to try yourself:

Maybe there is a separate toolbar for Windows 7?

Don't know about Google search box. But Right click on the task bar select
toolbars The address bar is there maybe the Google search bar is too.

That's not the one, I think.
It's a shame this forum/newsgroup doesn't accept attachments, then I could
have shown you (I tried, it doesn't work).
If you look at the W7 Taskbar, on the left is the Windows start button, then
a small space, then the 'e' for internet explorer (which is not my default
search engine, Google is).
Between the Start button and that 'e' I had, somehow, managed to insert a
Google search bar, which saved opening Internet Explorer first.
So it must be something in the Google Toolbar that I have missed.
My old computer is no longer connected to anything, so I can't look.

I will keep on searching, something will pop up.

No it isn't a Toolbar. The box looks almost identical to the small Search
box that appears when you click on the Windows Start button, but the Google
one is always visible.
I used it for a month before I got this computer, it was very handy.

IE is a browser, not a search engine. If you want it to open with Google
as your home page then start it, navigate to Google, click on the small
arrow to the right of the house icon on the toolbar and select 'Add Or
Change Home Page'.

You can slide alll those taskbar icons - drag and drop - into any order you
like. 'e' is not necessarily on the left, or not even neccessarily on the
taskbar.
