Has any one seen a release date for the next big "creator" update to
Windows 10.

It seems like I read it was to add some media functions. like those in
the Windows XP

Microsoft hasn't said anything officially yet but online chatter based
on the Insider builds suggest April.

Does any one know the installed size of this update?

My two computers will have no problem with the size but my tablet will
as it is only 32 GB. The latest version uses about half of that.

It is frustrating in that Microsoft wants into the Tablet market but
continue to increase the size of its OS so it will not fit on a tablet.
Equally furstrating is the fact you area forced to eventually apply
the update or the computer becomes unusable. (The first indication that
I have is minor function stop working and remain so until the update is
applied.)

Call Micro$oft Tech Support and report the conversation here?

If there is not sufficient space, there will be an OS
screen requesting you plug in a USB flash stick. The
sample screen I saw, it was requesting a "12GB flash".
A good size from your local Walmart, might be a 32GB stick.
Even if it is TLC Flash, it'll help get the job done.
(The Walmart stick won't wear out, after just one OS
upgrade cycle.)

If a machine only has room for an SD as external storage,
you'd want to check the device support in the hardware,
before heading off to the store and buying a fast one.
There are several speeds of SD, with various capacity
limitations. See Wikipedia for details.

*******

You should be keeping backups of your device just in case.
Your machine has 32GB eMMC (not quite the same thing
as an SSD). While the feature set here mentions it supports
TRIM, supporting TRIM can also mean, completely ignoring it :-)
The block diagram here is a bit too simplified for my tastes,
and is likely hiding some important details. I expected to
see a small micro in this picture. TRIM implies the keeping
of a spares pool, usage of LBA translation (data is not
stored where you think it is stored, everything is a jumble
inside). But there is no micro, which would imply data movement
after data is written. Effectively, the ability to defragment
itself internally after abuse with 4KB file writes (this is not
the same thing as an OS level defragment, which involves
cluster sized things).

http://www.samsung.com/us/business/o...20Overview.pdf

These details are only important, in terms of estimating how
long the chip will last. If the chip is soldered down,
if your storage fails, the whole computer heads for the
landfill. Unless you have a hot air station, can heat that
chip up and remove it.

If the eMMC was mounted on a removable circuit assembly, things
might be different. But then, it probably wouldn't be an eMMC
either. It would have a different name if it was removable.
It would be an M.2, an SSD, and so on.

A properly designed and programming OS should never need updates? What
happened to these moral and ethical values?

To live is to change, if you stop changing you are no longer alive.

Our world changes, our bodies change, and now our computers change,
everything changes, even the new type of pliers you buy at Sears.

Did the usual hammers and screw-drivers change a lot?

Why is Window$ being augmented with stupid changes?
