When the loans go bad, the banks just laugh. I don't think that trick still works. No, it's still going on, same as always; it's one reason why FDIC insured banks are so safe. Unregulated "shadow banks" are out in force too, stronger than ever, chasing yields; recently, some of them have gone under. You and Greg belong to the same apocalypse cult, apparently. You should be neighbors, along with Ted Kaczynski. It's an example of MGTOW in its purest form. You disdain others, so why would you live in a shoe box in a city ? I don't "disdain" everyone; I just don't want to be _ heavily _ involved in someone's life, that's all. as long as I can keep some distance, I'm fine. The room below me was playing music too loud, too long. I thumped out a message to him using a sledgehammer. He stopped. That's your city micro apartment for ya... 90 % of the time it's fine, quiet. He's in the room below me; so I can make his life hell, if I wanted to. I thought you lived in Seattle. I'm a comfortable distance away from any cities, I couldn't stand living in one. I don't have a car ( Amazon works well enough ). Nor do I have a huge house. Both are _ huge _ advantages. I just substantially increased my silver holdings, BTW. Silver isn't very convenient and inflation isn't a big concern. It's not necessarily inflation per se that motivated me to do so, it's the inevitable run-up that will be starting soon. A mere two bucks will make me over ten grand, and that's virtually guaranteed to happen. Remember, silver has run up as high as fifty bucks in the past, and the fundamentals are in place right now. lol All the way to the bank... i just can't wait until you're in , the guinness book for being , the richest man in the cemetary I'll have a few years left to enjoy it. You and Scooter can fight over my stuff if I check out first. i don't have anything but you're welcome to it Thanks for nothing. use it wisely |

People are moving to the city, leaving the farm.
Checky replied ( to me ):
Where's your money now, in an FDIC insured savings account ? Most of it's in no-penalty CDs now, earning 2.25%, which I can take out at any time. Some is in CDs that mature next April, earning 2.90%, and the rest is in a brokerage account, where most is parked in a settlement fund earning ~2%. Sounds safe, if not profitable. I've very little confidence in the solvency of the FDIC, It's the safest way to go, I think. I don't want to risk storing a lot of money in any form myself Right, because Governments subsidize devil-may-care deadbeats/junkies and penalize penny-pinching capitalists, creating bubbles. I want to put most of it in a small farm, which is probably the safest store of wealth for what you don't need to live on. Long-Term: People are moving to the city, leaving the farm. I suggest you do the same, stay in the city. If real estate prices take a dump as expected, I'll probably rent out the house I'm living in and enjoy the passive income. I've been a landlord before, and I hate dealing with renters. Long-Term: People are living alone now, ditching friends+family. I suggest you do the same, no renters. |

[ people are ] moving to small farms to sustain themselves, not to make a business out of it. According to you, Greg has done the right thing then. According to me, he's exiled himself; it's self-imprisonment. In the city, you can rent a micro-apartment and order Uber eats. I could say gold is going to the moon, and I'd be right; -- it's the WHEN part that's usually wrong. Since the end of 2015, the Yen has been tracking gold. as will the dollar, eventually, if all all goes right; complete with negative interest rates. I sort through all the crap and try to make sense out of it. We've a limited number of crappy choices. You can't blame the guy who "chooses" to jump out the window when the house is on fire. Likewise, governments are forced to make crappy "choices"; e.g. enabling drugs and thieving junkies. Governments subsidize devil-may-care deadbeats/junkies and penalize penny-pinching capitalists, creating bubbles. If they can get to it, they can take it. You could wake up one day and find your account has been frozen. Hence: I only invest in myself; I don't trust anyone. Long-Term: People are living alone now, ditching friends+family. I'm happier living alone than I ever was living with others. Amen. Trying to change others is a losing game; it'll drive you mad. |
