Canon printer woes

I have a little Canon s330photo (usb) which I am more than pleased
with, when it works. However, since a couple of months back it
occasionally goes a little scatterbrained. The black, and sometimes
the colour, will become lined or even kind of zig zagged. A great deal
of cleaning, replacing of cartridges is then done but it really does
seem to take forever to get it back on track and the ink monitor
usually hasn't mentioned any problems. Last time I spent hours doing
different stuff, removing the cartridges, making sure all was clean
and sparkling, and yet suddenly I was back to normal just as I was on
the point of giving up.

any ideas what's going on?

The print head might be damaged, but I would first suspect that the
paper is not exactly correct for the printing you are doing or you are
using incompatible self-refilled ink. Get some Canon photo paper to
test.

a new printer. It's gonna cost you more to get it 'repaired'.

I had a an Epson before this one... well, I also had a lexmark, but it
was free and even if I had bought it it would have cost about =A330 and
it showed, in the awful, slow, noisy and thirsty working for about a
week.
The Epson was an old... c60 or something like that and suffered often
from banding, and when faced with the delights of XP it kicked the
bucket.
The Canon cost half its price, is faster, quieter, smaller, easier to
get ink etc etc and apart from this problem I must say I'm very happy.

My son bought the epson as it was a dual connection. The usb version
refuse to work on his win98 and it was hard to install for normal
connection but it worked great. Then he just stopped using it. If push
comes to shove I'll see what it's like on mine before i decide which
way to jump
