Default run is not remembering previous commands

Hi All,

I have been doing a lot of remote assists the past few days.
I have noticed that "Run" (winR) is not remembering my
previous commands.

No big deal, but I would eventually like the ability back.
Is this configurable?

Many thanks,
-T

Go to settings privacy general and turn on let windows track app
launches to improve start and search results.

There's a setting in the registry...somewhere...which I set long ago.

I don't remember the details but we covered this in the past...

Maybe this?

You can set that to zero.

I seem to have broken that, on more than one OS.
Which means at some time, I must have been
given a registry key to fiddle with, and
"that's where they went".

Hi Paul,

Some consider the problem you described above as a bug:
o [Bug Fix] RUN MRU / History List is Always Empty in Windows 10
https://www.askvg.com/bug-fix-run-mru-history-list-is-always-empty-in-windows-10/

Some don't:
o Run History (RunMRU) Not Saved in Windows 10?
https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/run-mru-history-not-saved-windows/

Others manually disable the Most-recently-used key in the registry:
o How to Clear the Run Command's History in Windows 10
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/run-command-delete-history-windows-10

There are a few different most recently run keys in the registry:
o Clear Most Recently Used (MRU) list
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/clear-most-recently-used-mru-list
Namely:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\RunMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\FindComputerMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Doc Find Spec MRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\PrnPortsMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\StreamMRU
But there are lots more.

Here's a more complete list of scores of MRU locations in Windows versions:
o List of Windows MRU Locations
https://forensicswiki.org/wiki/List_of_Windows_MRU_Locations

Notice that the Start-Run MRU list is in *reverse* order.
o If you type command a, then b, then c, then d,
o The MRU order is d, then c, then b, then a (LIFO).

The freeware MRU Blaster (same developer as Spyware Blaster) clears it:
o MRU-Blaster
https://www.brightfort.com/mrublaster.html

The freeware CCleaner can also clear this (& other) MRUs:
o Windows Explorer
[x] Run (in Start menu)

While you're setting things up you use a lot of system variables
like %HOMEDIR% so you might want to have Start Run remember them
(at least temporarily).
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
Start Settings PC Settings Personalization Start

To turn on start-run memory, turn on "Show most used apps".
