W10 1909 with WOL issue :\
I have a laptop, Fujitsu Lifebook A544, with W10 1909 (I did a fresh
install few weeks ago!), bios is updated with last release but when I enable on the o.s. magic packets, wol, etc. the shutdown is like a reboot! I did a shutdown, the laptop's power goes off and after three seconds it goes up! I tried also to update nic (Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller) drivers from Realtek official site but it happens the same issue! Now also if I disabled magic packets and power up management from magic packets, the laptop's power goes off and after few seconds goes up! I enabled WOL on another old machine with Debian Buster and it works well!!! Unbelievable... :\ ^Bart |

Unbelievable... :\ ^Bart powercfg -lastwake powercfg -devicequery wake_armed powercfg -waketimers More examples here. https://www.ghacks.net/2013/12/31/find-pc-wakes-stop/ Notice how in the ghacks example, the RealTek in Device Manager shows custom options Wake on Magic Packet Wake on pattern match If a Microsoft generic driver is used, then the Microsoft list of features there, is a particular NDIS list. NDIS comes in numbered versions such as NDIS5 or NDIS6. The number of features increases from version to version. But features like Wake, sometimes the hardware does not adhere exactly to an NDIS standard. The hardware "works better" with the proprietary driver, as generally, the items listed are the "real items" and not just a list of generic items thrown in. To get the genuine RealTek driver, go to the computer manufacturer website and check there for it. RealTek used to be good about providing drivers, and they used to be readily available from the main RealTek site. But that may have changed, in which case try your computer manufacturer. Once the RealTek driver is installed, go back to Device Manager (available in right-click of Start orb), and in Device Manager, inspect the Wake options. Sometimes, there is a "Wake on Carrier" option, and that option pretty well wakes up the computer as soon as it goes to sleep. Selecting another option if that happens, should stop it, as would entirely disabling the device as a wake source. Powercfg has a pretty powerful set of options, and can provide lots of breadcrumbs when you have problems. It represents a real improvement, unlike other parts of the OS... Paul |
