possible javascript issue
I've been unable to open certain webpages that I used to be able to
open. The error codes that I'm getting have to do with javascript. I've tried four browsers on my W7 computer, and I get the same error messages with each. I'm able to open the pages on my iPad, however. 1. My phone company/ISP allows me to click on Chat, for example, but when I try to do so, nothing happens and I get this error message: javascript:launchChat() 2. I should be able to read my messages to and from Amazon in its Message Center, but when I try, nothing happens and I get this error message: javascript:void(0) I'd be very grateful for help. -- Thank you, Jo-Anne |

If so, you might want to try selectively disabling them, to see if that resolves it. (But the fact it's happening on four different browsers doesn't make this sound quite as likely as I would like to think). |

Interestingly, the phone company's Chat is working right now in Chrome and works in Firefox if I disable all add-ons. But Amazon's Message Center doesn't work in either one even when the Firefox add-ons are disabled. (I've never configured Chrome; it's as it came when I downloaded it.) -- Jo-Anne |

I was a bit surprised that Chrome had a problem right out of the box. There still are some setting options in Chrome you could probably look into (as to what was default selected, like for pop ups, or whatever), even though you haven't added any extensions to it. I'm not sure what is going on with your Amazon's message center. I just tried it out now, and I'm able to log in and see past messages. So I don't know what the problem is at your end. Maybe you have some other program running in the background (like an ad blocker) that's causing an issue? Also (and this may or may not be pertinent), I am using an older version of both FF and Chrome, since I'm running Windows XP here. So I suppose the version of the browser could potentially be an issue, although it seems doubtful. Maybe someone else can drop in here with some further suggestions! |

Disabling extensions is the first step. Starting the web browser in its safe mode is the next. However, while that disables all extensions, it does not void all changes in settings you made to the web browser. Could be a tweak in the web browser stored in your profile. Create a new profile for Firefox to see if the problem remains or goes away. Using the Refresh button is an easy way to create a new profile rather than use Firefox's Profile Manager. |

On my iPad, I emailed myself a link to the webpage with the message I was reading in the Message Center. I then clicked on that link on my W7 computer. The message opened fine in Firefox, and I was able to navigate to the MC's Inbox and Sent Messages from it. However, when I left the website and tried to open Message Center again from the Amazon webpage, it didn't work. I then did the same thing in Chrome, and again the link took me to the message and enabled me from there to check the Inbox and Sent Messages--but, again, I still couldn't open Message Center from the Amazon webpage. -- Jo-Anne |
