Default "minor" installation problem

I was planning a "clean install" of WinXP Pro on my
computer.I deleted all the former partitions and proceeded
to create one 12 gb one on which I planned to install XP.
But after installing XP and rebooting my system it gave me
this message "Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)
partition(1)" Now of course I thought hmmm how odd so i
proceeded to once again boot my computer delete the
partitions and reinstall windows. Same problem. Must have
done this about 3 times. Now I know the CD works since
I've used it on a different computer before this and it
worked fine.... anybody run into this problem before?
could be something with the hard drive or...?

Are you booting from the XP CD? If not, do so. The XP CD has all the tools
to delete existing partitions, make new partitions, format and then install
XP.

Chris, has this hard drive been used before? If so, did you have some sort
of compression in use?
