"multiple_irp_complete_requests" error, USB Contention??
XP Home, SP 2
HP a1123c Pavilion Desktop HP psc 2410 Printer Realtek RTL8101L NIC, onboard, ASUS Goldfish 3 motherboard DLink DI-624 Super G wireless router Motorola SB5120 modem Cox Cable HSI, always on Frequent interrupts in large file downloads and streaming music caused me to go looking for problems with Cox Cable. Eventually, after buying a new modem and doing lots of tests/consulting with Cox support staff, conclusion reached that NIC on my motherboard may be a little screwed up. I downloaded and installed the latest driver and that seemed to help. Cox suggested workaround-hook up a Linksys USB-Ethernet adapter and bypass NIC to see if it really is the problem. I did that and while the system was running it seemed much better. BUT, within minutes of first installing the adapter the blue screen crash showed up with the error message "multiple_irp_complete_requests" Memory dump proceeded, etc. Nothing I have been able to do has helped including getting a self-powered USB hub. I hook up the adapter and after a few minutes, crash. I have the HP printer, one external HDD and my receiver for wireless mouse and keyboard hooked up to the USB ports on the machine. There are six ports so 3 are empty. Some evidence exists for bad interaction with HP printer drivers giving this error a few years ago. But that involved an old printer no longer supported. It is clearly some kind of USB buss problem. But what? The USB drivers all seem to be Microsoft standard stuff and Device Mgr says they are okay. Where do I look to try to resolve this thing? I can live with my Ethernet connection/NIC for a bit but it bothers me when something that is supposed to be "straightforward" goes whacky. Cox tech people say they have not seen this before with a USB-Ethernet adapter. I am not a Windows "maven" I can follow instructions, etc. but I'm not very skilled with the jargon of computing. So if you think you can help, please keep it as simple as possible. Some help would sure be appreciated. Thanks. -- Thank you for your help, Scholastica |
