Fkey for Recovery Console
When I boot from my WinXP CD, I do not get the recovery
console or repair install options. I understand there are Fkey or other keystroke options to get into recovery console or repair install, even if the prompts don't appear. Can someone tell me what these keys are? Thx |

Why do you need to enter the Recovery Console? 2. What is the make and model of your PC? 3. Are you sure you are booting off the CD and not the hard drive? Certain PCs will allow you to boot off the CD without needing to enter the BIOS to reconfigure your boot order. However, the key you press while booting up depends on the make and model of your PC. Dells, for instance, allow you to press F12 (I believe) to change the booting device on the fly. 4. If you properly boot off the hard drive, you will eventually see this screen: http://www.simplyguides.net/images/g..._console/4.jpg Of course, at this point you would need to press R for the Recovery Console. However, if you need to perform a Repair Install, *don't* press R! Press Enter . You will later see a screen that will allow you to press R to "repair the selected Windows XP installation." |

If you have a store bought system, most do not come with bootable XP media and you may be booting on some kind of system recovery CD - not the same thing. If you do not have Recovery Console installed on your system or an XP installation CD or a bootable Recovery Console CD (which you can make), not amount of F keys will yield the Recovery Console or a Repair Install option. |
