What do you know about Maxthon?

1) what's in a name Max Thon. What is Thon?

2) It says it is going through a proxy server that can be changed.
What is the benefit? Not tried it.

3) It has built-in web page download for videos. Seems to work well.

4) Offers cloud services. What do you know about that?

More? Please enlighten me.
TIA

What I read in the wikipedia^2 and a 2011 interview^1 article.

1) what's in a name Max Thon. What is Thon?

Jeff Chen (as CEO) recounting its history thought both words meant
maximum and superlative, but the English etymology of -thon/-athon is
actually a back-formation from marathon to indicate extended activity
such as a fundraising '-athon'.

2) It says it is going through a proxy server that can be changed.
What is the benefit? Not tried it.

Maxthon has considerable power in allowing a custom proxy setting for
different URLs. Here's a discussion in its forum showing a screenshot
of the custom settings function and an explanation.

http://forum.maxthon.com/thread-3429-1-1.html Maxthon supports
remembering custom proxy server button for each Url

3) It has built-in web page download for videos. Seems to work well.

4) Offers cloud services. What do you know about that?

Wiki says 'integrated web services' in the features section.

It sounds like maxthon benefited greatly from going through a phase of
being open-sourced so that many had a chance to offer improvements.

Interview With Jeff Chen, The CEO Of Maxthon Ltd.

^2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxthon (officially called Maxthon Cloud
Browser, originally known as MyIE2) is a freeware web browser for
Windows and OS X that is developed in China by the company Maxthon Ltd.
It is also available on Windows Phone 8,[5]iOS[6] and Android[7]
platforms as Maxthon Mobile.

See Mike Easter's reply. To add to his reply, I'll tell you that it's
far and away my favorite browser and I recommend it highly. Let me
suggest that you give it a try.

Also, let me tell you that the use of a proxy is optional in Maxthon.
For more info on it, read he

I think you're reading it wrong.

It's Maxth On, Maxth Off. Maybe it's Japanese.

LOL. No, Maxthon is a Chinese product.

I thought "thon" was the French "tuna."

I think micky is recalling Mr. Miyagi's (Pat Morita) instructions to
Daniel Son (Ralph Macchio) in 1984 Karate Kid "Wax On, Wax Off" (there
are plenty of YouTubes to show that iconic line).

Naturally Miyagi is .jp, Okinawan to be exact, not .cn.

OMG! You can't be serious? There is a huge difference between Maxthon
and Firefox. Plus Maxthon has four different browsers.

Maxthon Classic
Maxthon 2
Maxthon 3
Maxthon 4 (aka Maxthon Cloud)

They are totally different from each other like night and day. So just
saying you tried Maxthon for a couple of days doesn't tell us anything.
As we don't even know what version of Maxthon you had tried. I
personally find Maxthon versions far more versatile than Firefox. As I
can do many things that Firefox can't even do. And I don't think anybody
can learn what you all can do with a browser in just a couple of days.
If I only gave Maxthon just a couple of days, I am sure I won't be using
it today either. But that would be the same of any other browser too.

I for one have not found the secret to doing other than browsing with
Maxthon 4. Can you fill in some of the other things it can do?

Especially, how do I email a link to the page I'm currently viewing?

Thanks.
