App development
Do you know if is easy to make apps than traditional desktop software? I
tried Visual Basic and it's not very complicated. Perhaps app development should be a good way of life. |

How do you define "app"? MS Office can be considered an app. It is several million lines long. Is a five line VBS program a program or an app? Personally, I would like to find someone to write drivers to make hardware compatible with o/s's. |

For the average small developer (one-man shop), being in the Microsoft Store does not pay well. It pays about as well, in per-hour wages, as working at the McDonalds flipping burgers. Your program idea must be really unique, capture the imagination of the users, to make any real money. Making an application which looks like the other applications, does not guarantee a goldmine awaits you. You will travel to your work on a bicycle, not a Lamborghini. Paul |

How do you define "app"? MS Office can be considered an app. It is several million lines long. Your definition seems similar to mine. As far as I'm concerned, "app" is just short for "application," and any program (except possibly a utility, if you want to use different names for them) is both an "app" and "application." The three terms--"program," "application," and "app,"--essentially mean the same thing. However, applications on iphones and ipods and Android devices have been called "apps" rather than "applications" by most people. And Microsoft started using the same name with the tile applications on the Modern/Metro interface. So unfortunately almost overnight, almost everyone in the world (including Randy, quoted above) now differentiates between applications (major applications that run under the desktop interface) and apps (minor applications that run under the Modern/Metro interface). I disagree with that point of view, but I know that it's a losing battle. |

Paul -- I did a search and found that metro's apps are made with javascript which is a language a little hard to learn. I guess it's like working with webpages. We need Visual Studio Express 2012. Once I installed VS Express Free but got issues on system and quit. Next year things will change and I don't have time or ideas. |
