IE window closes automatically after opening

I have just installed Windows XP SP2. After the install, whenever I click on
the IE icon or try and start it from the start menu the IE window opens and
then closes automatically in about 4-5 seconds. The same thing occurs when I
try and open the AOL Instant Messaging program, which is why I think this is
an XP problem and not an IE problem. I have no problem making a dial-up
connection to the internet. I just cannot open up an IE window to browse the
internet. Thanks for your help.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW
