Start up screens, Welcome screen, default screen saver and an unknown icon
Part of this will be repeated from an eariler thread, sorry. I forgot what I called it and can't find it.
1) Windows has default startup and shutdown screens located in the root of the c drive and in c:\windows, these are logo files; logo.sys, logow.sys, and logos.sys. I downloaded some different ones from a theme website, and prior to the upgrade from windows ME I saw them. After I installed XP home edition I replaced these files again (I figured the installation had overwritten them), however I still can not see them, why? 2) Can I create my own logo.sys files from paint, etc. ? 3) Can I cange the background on the welcome screen? 4) When all accounts are logged off the screen saver that is used is windowsxp, can I change it? If so, how? 5) Finally I have a strange icon on my desktop, it is a box with B... in it and can not be resized, mouse clicking on it does nothing (right or left click, single or double click). It can be moved but not into recycle bin (it sits on top) or into the task bar. Task manager gives me no clue as to what this is and the colors seem to change when I change schemes. What is it and how do I get rid of it? Thank you for any help you can offer. |

It isn't as easy as changing those two files with Windows XP. Either use a
third party utility, or do it manually. For a start go to: http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak753.aspx Then go to: http://www.themexp.org/howto.php -- T.C. Pay it forward...
