Background information on Stop Error message http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795930.aspx 0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile. Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm Debugging Tools http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...nstallx86.Mspx Does the laptop belong to you or is it provided by your employer for your use? I do not follow your remarks regarding safe mode. Are you saying you have a limited User Account? If yes please explain the circumstances? Do you have important data you need to recover. If yes you should do this before attempting a repair. Do you have access to a second computer? What is the make and model of the problem computer? What is the make and model of the second computer? Recovery can be done without booting the computer but needs a second computer to be available to carry out the operation. In essence the hard drive is removed from the problem computer and is, either placed in the second computer as a slave drive or is placed in an external cradle connected to the second computer. Either way you bypass the damaged operating system on the first computer and use the operating system of the second computer to read and copy the data files to removable media such as a CD. Did you make any software or hardware changes the last time you used the computer before this morning? Notwithstanding your remarks about safe mode try Last Known Good Configuration? A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us -- Hope this helps. You should ask your employer to repair the computer as the system has been set up not to allow you to tinker! -- Gerry ~~~~ FCA Stourport, England Enquire, plan and execute ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ jm wrote: gerry thanks for ur reply The computer is provided by my emplyer for use so only the n/w admin of the company has administrative privileges .I am unable to boot for safe mode and i even tried the last good config but was of no use .I do have a second com but i dont feel confident about how to go abt repairing it coz i might lose software and important data related to work purposes.
