My problem started tusday so I do not know if this is related to any upgrade

when I highlight a selection of text in word I must click at end of
selection before choosing next option

when select, drag and drop in explorer I must left click for the drop to
happen

I have looked at mouse settings and see now settings errors

Looks like you have an option in your mouse software that keeps the
button effectively pressed until you press it again. While it was
designed for handicapped users, some normal users just don't have the
dexterity to press down a mouse button and keep it pressed while
dragging it over a selection. Maybe they had some fingers shot off in a
war or policing action.

Take a look in the options for your mouse. For me, in the Mouse applet
in Control Panel, the option is called ClickLock.

Else, a sticky mouse button could be the cause. You press but the mouse
button doesn't come all the way up so its switch is still closed. When
you click again, the button gets jiggled so the switch open. Mice don't
really have buttons. They have a split shell with thinner pliable
plastic on the top so those left and right sections will flex. Under
them is a switch. What you hear when the mouse "clicks" is the switches
underneath toggling shut and open. The shell can get hot, or the
constant pressing deteriorates the flex of the plastic (just like when
you take plastic or metal and constantly flex in back and forth).
Switch also break or get flaky. I've had some mice where the switch
would make good contact on the downstroke but the spring inside got too
weak to push up the level on the switch and the "button" portion of the
plastic shell.

Have you tried a new or different (and known working) mouse?

Control Panel, Mouse, Button Settings, Clicklock

Click Lock is an option, not an error.

What error(s) are you seeing ?
