Default Upgrading from Win10 Home to Win10 Pro

I have been thinking about upgrading my desktop from Home to Pro for quite
some time now. My laptop has Pro, and I like the little "extras" you get
that aren't included in Home, like GP Editor, better MS Update settings,
etc. Best I could find was $99US from the Store, and really didn't want to
spend that much, even though that's really not a lot of money.

Then I came across this article:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/going-pro-how-to-upgrade-windows-10-home-without-hassles/

I liked the "free" part, and especially the "without hassles" description
:-) I have an old Win8 Pro DVD that was never used, so I did an image of my
system (just in case), followed the web site instructions, and ~15 minutes
and 2 reboots later, I'm running Win10 Pro! It really was as simple and easy
as promised :-)

I don't think I ever saw that before or I would have tried it, but I'm
certainly happy with the results so far. Hope some one else can also benefit
from the "free" upgrade.

I upgraded to Pro for free as a result of the fact that the licenses
for Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 Ultimate (both received as
compensation for beta-testing work done for Microsoft years ago) were
still tied to my account. I think it's a great perk and I enjoy the
Bitlocker feature which allows me to set up encryption on my drives
and any USB key I choose to use. While I'm aware that same
functionality could be granted by using Veracrypt, the Bitlocker
encryption is recognized by all Windows PCs without the need to
install any additional software so it is automatically the most
convenient.
