Default Jonathan - continuing ICS probs

Copied from my earlier post:

Jonathan,

There were about 4, msmgs entries.... 15599 UDP, 8959 TCP, 21994 TCP and
12788 UDP. I have no idea what those figures mean!

Hi Adrian,

When you went into UPnP port forwardings (see my previous post), were

there any 'msmsgs' or
'msnmsgr' entries?

Jonathan,

Bit of a delay getting back to you but I have tried this and am still

having
no luck. I cannot start any video or voice conversation at all when ICS

is
enabled. Nor can I send files. I can however participate if someone
invites me....

Any other suggestions?

TIA
Adrian

Greetings Adrian,

ICS is UPnP enabled, so it shouldn't be a problem, you might just need

to
reset the UPnP
ports set in the ICS. To do so, click Start, All Programs,

Accessories,
Communications,
Network Connections. Right click your connection, then click

Properties.
Click the Advanced
Tab, and then click the Settings button. Click each 'msmsgs' or

'msnmsgr'
entry and then
choose 'Delete' to each one. Then close Messenger (right-click the

Messenger icon, choose
Exit), then restart Messenger and try a voice/video conversation

again.

Jonathan,

I run win XP home on my home PC and laptop, with NIS installed the

home
PC.
I have had a problem where I have been unable to initiate video or

voice
chats or to send or receive files.. I thought it was a firewall

problem,
however...

I have now found that if I disable ICS (the XP version) it works

fine,
although obviously this means my laptop can't access the internet.

So
what
do I need to do to let ICS work and still let me initialise video

calls?
I
gather ICS is uPNP compliant so I can't see where the problem is..

Greetings Pink,

This is exactly what's supposed to be happening, this is Messenger and UPnP automatically
opening and forwarding the proper ports for voice/video to be successful (at least on your
end).

I would encourage you to uninstall NIS (temporarily) and see if you can get it to work with
it out of the way (if you can, then reinstall NIS). Because it appears that ICS is working
correctly.

Jonathan,

So I presume you mean it is some interaction between NIS and ICS that is the
problem? As it works fine with ICS disabled....

Thanks,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

That's my guess (unfortunately I don't have any sort of setup here where I could test this
for you also).
