Amcap (USBPCCamPlus) doesn't seem to work, does it work for you?

The cameras probably come in two types, ones that are UVC compliant and older cameras where the driver is necessary for the OS to see them. I suspect your camera needs the driver. It is not plug and play it needs HPBSC driver (HP Basic Starter Camera driver) In Windows, if I go to Settings : Control Panels : Scanners and Cameras, I can see a single entry in there for "USB Video Device". You can use that entry, to test captures from your camera. But again, that assumes your drivers are working. At the moment, with my UVC compliant camera, it took over 30 seconds, but eventually the "Scanner and Camera Wizard" is displaying an image of what my camera is focused on.I can take snapshots that way. While UVC makes the basic features of the camera work, it is not the whole story - I need to install the driver for my camera, in order for it to achieve its highest resolution setting. So some custom features don't work with UVC alone. But I can easily take test snapshots, to prove the camera works. Apologies, didn't read it properly, the computer has already got a UVC plug and play working on your computer before taking 30 seconds to get a picture. Then you install a special driver. But google seems to suggest i think that Linux needs a UVC driver? I presume your operating system is MS Windows XP because this is microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware but is probably the 32 bit version? "USBPCCamPlus_v5.18.1.005_120standard(1.3M).ex e" is also available here http://www.oem-drivers.com/2009/11/2...ection-camera/ http://www.oem-drivers.com/wp-content/download/T38.rar |

Look in your "Control Panel" folder, for an item called "Scanners and Cameras". If an image device has a proper driver installed, the device may be registered and detected in "Scanners and Cameras". This screenshot shows "Scanners and Cameras" but there's nothing below it, meaning nothing detected. http://cid-64f5892d2f88d17f.photos.l...era%20plus.JPG When I have tried to uninstall Amcap (from the mini CD I received with the camera), it goes through the uninstall process but afterwards I go to the start menu, programs and find it is still there and am able to launch the program exactly as before! So I decided to resort to using the add/remove programs feature to finally get rid of it and have things back to how it was before. But letting windows hunt for drivers - where it settled on the HP Basic Starter Camera driver, I try Picasa but that doesn't get any pictures and nothing in "Control Panel" "Scanners and Cameras". I tried plugging in the dental camera into a 2nd PC also running windows XP and this time i did *not* install the Amcap (USBPCCamPlus) software. I instead decided to just let Windows automatically look for drivers. In "Control Panel" "Scanners and Cameras" it shows HP Basic Starter Camera and I got moving pictures! Picasa 3 also gets gets moving pictures too. Could the Amcap install have ruined the first computer that even an uninstall didn't fix? |

InstallShield installers, should usually have an uninstallation option. And it should be visible in all the normal places. InstallShield would normally do a decent job of uninstallation. Now, I examined your driver installation, using Wine in Ubuntu 10.04 for safety. In there, I can find this directory - the contents of this, hold portions of the USB PC Camera Plus installer. (I hope that I have copied the directory name correctly - in the environment I'm using, I cannot copy and paste these things.) Program Files/InstallShield Installation Information/{ECD03DA7-5952-406A-8156-5F0C93618D1F} In there is a file called "setup.exe". If you double click that, you may see an install/uninstall dialog appear. That should allow InstallShield to run the uninstallation, as defined by Sonix/Microdia when they set up their InstallShield package. An uninstaller is only as thorough, as the people using the tools, so if an idiot set up the InstallShield, then it may leave garbage all over the place. You should have seen uninstallation options in other places, such as just below the Amcap entry in your Start:Programs entry for Amcap. If you cannot find uninstallation options in the regular Windows places, then find that {ECD03DA7-5952-406A-8156-5F0C93618D1F} directory and use the "setup.exe" file inside. The options presented in the dialog Window should be "Modify", "Repair", "Remove". Give the Remove a try. I notice as well, that installer sprinkled stuff in the C:\Windows folder, which doesn't seem like such a good choice of a place for such files. Hopefully, the uninstaller will sweep all that crap out of there. If that did not clean it up, you always have the option of reinstalling it, to put the files back where they were, and trying the uninstallation process again. If you've been manually deleting things, I can't predict here, what InstallShield will think of that. But reinstalling would put everything back, such that the uninstaller will get a chance to properly remove it. Paul |

Normally i just let the computer search for HP Basic starter camera driver but instead i installed the troublesome software USBPCCamPlus_v5.18.1.005_120standard(1.3M).exe from http://www.google.com/url?sa=D&q=htt...-RGhk6lyAeIbAw I've uploaded screen shot JPGs and files collectively here https://cid-64f5892d2f88d17f.office....0&sa=610365145 they're also more individually here https://cid-64f5892d2f88d17f.office....0&sa=408653088 https://nvneuq.blu.livefilestore.com...ownload&psid=1 https://nvneuq.blu.livefilestore.com...cap.TXT?psid=1 My 613c dental camera is in the snpstd3.inf and setupapi.log files although PcCam168 isn't in either file. When i plug this camera in it now says it found "USB PC Camera [sn9c120]" when it usually just say "USB Camera". The jpg shows the device manager still calls it "USB Camera" but with an exclamation mark(!) and code 28 error: "the drivers for this device are not installed". Device Instance Id on the jpg says ... USB\VID_0c45&PID_613e\5&28CODE0&0&2 can't find 5&28CODE0&0&2 anywhere but 28CODE must be a reference to code 28 error I stopped at actually installing the driver for sn9c120 because of the "not passed windows logo testing" message - although this same message appeared for USBPCCamPlus_v5.18.1.005_120standard(1.3M).exe. I decided to analyse the setupapi.log and snpstd3.inf files at this point. I think the installation must have changed the identity of the camera. It must think its sn9c120 now but its got it wrong i think. Whenever I've plugged it in it has never said sn9c120 - well apart from once when i pressed alt tab on another computer t6 with snapshot button which i never installed the troublesome software but just HP Basic starter camera driver. MS at one time dreamed of being the king of all software installations and thought the world would register their software with them. Well, no one did of course, or hardly anyone, which makes sense. If it IS MS trusted, then it should be fine to use. If it's not, it's up to the user to know where they got the software from and to know it's safe to use (free of bad code, malicious code, etc). So it's quite safe to use as long as you are sure the place you got it from is a white hat. In other words, you used common senseg. .... HTH, Twayne` |

So Pccam168 is the same thing as SN9C120 + HV7131R (controller + sensor).
I forgot this bit. So I suppose it hasn't really changed identity. |

I forgot I'd left the permission on these hyperlinks for 'just me'. They're now public. The bottom two which were direct hyperlinks to files rather then the folder on my Skydrive don't work for some reason but that's hardly a problme since thethe two two links above them work which give access to all the files. |
