BEFORE U READ MY PROBLEMS, read this:
i may have been hacked because i had to re-install norton
internet security and now that works fine. before, i
could NOT enable norton security. shortly before this
problem, i had PERMANENTLY deleted files which had been
erased by the trash can.

NOW MY PROBLEMS:
(1) When I select Start, Run and type in "msconfig". The
msconfig utility comes up for two seconds and then
disappears.
(2) When I Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, the Windows Task Manager
comes up for two seconds and then disappears.
(3) When I right click on "My Computer" and I select
Properties, I get the error message: The procedure

entry
point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be
located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll. The

Title
of the error message is: rundll32.exe - Entry point not
found
(4) When I try to run System Restore, I get the same
error message as above and the title of the Error

Message
is: rstrui.exe - Entry Point Not Found. I get a lot of
Error Messages similar to above.

Try a repair this way:
Start, Run
Type "cmd" ENTER
Type "sfc /scannow" ENTER
Have your Windows XP CD ready.

If that fails, try a Repair Installation:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
Windows Updates and Service Pack will need to be reinstalled.

If you firmly believe you have been hacked, perform a Clean
Installation.
If you were hacked it can be nearly impossible to determine the extent
of the damage or corruption and the hacker may still have his claws in
the computer. .

I did that "sfc /scannow" procedure and then nothing it
did the test to verify the files. After it had done that,
no confirmation, no message, nothing. What has happened?

If sfc /scannow did not work or resolve the issue, try a Repair
Installation:

As I said in reply to your previous post.... if you haven't already done a
system check with an up to date NAV.. then do so... even so, it would be
worthwhile checking the norton website and checking in the security
responses section where they have detailed info on virus infections.
At a quick glance your situation does sound like a W32.Klez virus - don't
quote me though... the norton site does have disinfectant tools... but if
you're still not certain that you have cleansed your system then better to
do a full reformat and a clean re-installation on your system disk.

hope that helps
Pete

That's the way it works. Open your "Event viewer" to see if anything =
