Default Adding XP to a 98 workgroup

We have to replace one of 6 W98 machine workgroup with
one that has XPHome on it. The problem is getting the
new XP into the workgroup and being recognized and
communicating with the other established in the
workgroup. We did the XP network setup on each of the 98
machines, but still not communicating or showing up as
part of the workgroup. We can PING back and forth...
showing conductivity... but we need to get this machine
into the workgroup and recognizing each other as the 98
machines already do. This has been very frustrating!
