Default Laptop tips

I just bought a laptop computer for the first time ever and I'm wondering
how do I keep it from getting stolen? I will need to carry it to work with
me and thought I would also take it with me on vacation. Is it safe to
leave in a hotel room? In a car? It seems to me the best thing to do with
it would be to hide it in some clothes or something in your suitcase. Does
anybody have any tips or experience with traveling with laptops (both
locally and out-of-town.)?

When you take your camera, clothes, jewelry on a trip - extra credit cards,
spare cash, etc...

How do you treat that?

It's not much different except that you want to password-protect your
laptop, not store anything like you passwords, financial data, etc on the
laptop unencrypted, etc.

Only if it'll fit in the room's safe, and not always then.

In a car?

Only if it's out of sight in the truck, and that's assuming no one
steals or breaks into your car for other reasons.

Only if you're hand-carrying your luggage; if your luggage gets lost or
stolen, so does the laptop.

Hand-carry it unless you can be certain of the security provisions
provider at your lodgings. And don't for get to keep it insured, have
any important data backed up elsewhere.

I can't believe there is an article like that.

If I write articles like that, will people pay me?

If it ever leaves your site, assume it will be stolen and decide what
you are going to do if that happens.

Then when it happens, you only really care about the slight
inconvenience and not the major catastrophe that was averted by your
careful planning.

Camera is usually carried with me all the time. No jewelry. Clothers are
worthless rags. Money and credit cards are split up. Some in the suitcase,
some with me. If I get robbed while I'm away from the hotel, I still have
money and credit cards. If the hotel room gets robbed, I still have money
and credit cards. Unfortunatley you can't split a laptop in half. I don't
want to take it with me everywhere I go.
