Volume control won't open
I'm running XP on a Dell Inspiron 6000.
I've recently started havin ga problem with my audio. The Volume icon in the lower right of my screen shows Mute. When I double-click to open the volume control, I get a message "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." What has happened? How can I fix it? Thanks. |

Sounds like a driver problem. Open Device Manager and check for any yellow question marks under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Download the latest audio drivers from Dell's website and reinstall. |

Volume control won't open
You're right, it was a driver problem. I updated the driver and it seems fine
now. The icon in the lower right of the screen still says "Volume(muted)", but it sounds fine. Thanks for your help. "Mark Adams" wrote: "Eric" wrote: I'm running XP on a Dell Inspiron 6000.
