Search refuses to search in a textfile (.src)
Hello All,
I've got anumber of files with the extension .src . I've right-clicked it and used "Open With" to bind them with notepad, and that works. I can now left-click it to open the file in notepad. The problem is that searching the folder for its specific filetype together with a certain piece of text in it it does not show any results ... Renaming the extension to .txt and than searching does show the correct files though. My question: What is going on and how do I fix it ? Regards, Rudy Wieser |

It doesn't actually search all files even though it's told to search all files (wildcard "*.*"), and in hidden and system files via advanced search. |

And as a result of the "filtered" search available in Windows XP (plus Microsoft's XP search is coded to specifically not show some "special" files), you'll want a better search utility, like: FileLocator Lite (aka File Ransack) http://www.mythicsoft.com/page.aspx?...lite&page=home The fix is to get a better search tool. |

Search refuses to search in a textfile (.src)
Hello VanguardLH,
The files are AFAIK not special, nor have any special file-attributes attribites set. The fix is to get a better search tool. I found a different, easier kind of fix: I copied, in the registry, the "PersistentHandler" key from the .txt entry to the new .src one, and all seems to be well again. Thanks for your suggestion though. Regards, Rudy Wieser -- Origional message: VanguardLH schreef in berichtnieuws ... JJ wrote: R.Wieser wrote: I've got anumber of files with the extension .src. Search refuses to search in a textfile (.src)
Hello JJ,
The built in file search to search by file content sucks. It doesn't actually search all files even though it's told to search all files (wildcard "*.*"), and in hidden and system files via advanced search. I know, I bumped into the infamous "Won't search the 'Program files' folder when searching the whole disk" a few months ago. Although I can understand the reason for it, its to easy to forget that folder is suppressed and asssume a certain file simply does not exist because it does not turn up. :-\ But in my specific case your above remarks do not seem to be aplicable: I made the folder and its contents myself. No special attributes, and as far as I can tell not a special kind of file. I did find a fix though: simply copying, in the registry, some stuff from the .txt entry to the .src one and 'search' did start to look into my new files too Thanks for your remarks, Rudy Wieser -- Origional message JJ schreef in berichtnieuws ...
