Default changing password problems

Win2k advanced server domain
winxp pro client

problem:
when this particular user changes their password using ctrl-alt-del | change
password the following happens:

1. the user cannot access the network / mapped drives (user / password
error)
2. reboot the client machine logon as the user & network access is OK
3 logon to the same machine as a different user and change password works
ok, network access is ok without having to reboot
4 go to a different XP client machine as the same user and change
password works ok, network access is ok without having to reboot

The user in question has a lot of settings within their profile and it would
not be simple to reconfigure it.

I suspect there is a corrupt cached copy of the users SID. can I flush /
refresh from the domain this cached copy?

or can anyone suggest alternate answer

Help would be appreciated

Thanks

Gary
