Windows XP Hibernate
I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Windows XP Media Center Edition, SP3.
It recently has started hanging up when turned on after hibernating. I have to shut it down and restart the computer. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem or what may be causing it? Thanks. -- wdc

You have a hidden system file c:\hiberfil.sys recreated each time you
hibernate. I don't know if it would help but I would delete this file and see what happens at the nest restart. It's a container to hold the system state and active RAM contents at hibernation. When you hibernate, usually only a portion of it is used. The file may have become corrupted, so the best solution, as suggested by FrankV, is to delete the file. To do this, you disable hibernation, delete the file and reboot. Then re-enable hibernation, and reboot. A new hiberfil.sys will be recreated. It's somewhat similar to the process of creating a new pagefile.
