I was having problems with Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 so I reinstalled it and booted. Windows bootup went normally until it got to the logon screen, which was the old style logon instead of the XP style logon. I then logged in and after a long delay (
1 minute +) wait, it came back with the below error message. I've tried rebooting several times and the same thing happens. This happens when I try to go into safe mode as well.

"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0x80090006."

And as an extra bonus, that error code is not in the MSFT knowledgebase for XP Pro.

I've tried going to the Recovery Console, and all the drive letters have been shifted!

Thank you for your reply. That solution seems to apply directly to my case. However, I cannot even log into safe mode, which is necessary for that solution.

I have ended up simply reinstalling Windows, though I encountered major problems there too

Well that stinks! Did you lose your programs, etc.? If you did, and you are
still having problems, might I suggest you fdisk and reformat and then
reinstall windows.

If you haven't lost your programs and such, and you have access to a second
hard drive... you might do what I've done several times. Install the second
hard drive as a secondary drive, run Windows Files and Settings transfer
Wizard, and choose all settings and files, and direct it to save it on the
second drive. Wipe out your primary hard drive, reinstall windows, run the
Files and Settings wizard again, and restore your files and settings from
the secondary drive. Then you can remove the secondary drive (or just leave
it for backup purposes). You only need like a 4 GB drive, and you can get
these fairly cheap. If you like, I can send you one for $10 plus Shipping

Anyway, hope you get your computer straight. If you need any more help, just
holler here or at my email address (johnATthecompuwizardDOTcom).

Yeah, it stinks big time. I was able to reinstall without reformatting, so I didn't lose anything. A handful of programs needed to be reinstalled, but almost everything works.

On the downside, my USB ports and modem have stopped working The USB is a simple driver problem, I just need to hunt down the proper driver and install it. The modem problem is much more frustrating. I can't find anything wrong with the modem or its
drivers, my ISP software is installed, but it can't use the modem. I tried setting up the connection manually, but the option to manually set up a dial-up connection has been greyed out! (I suspect that fixing this will also allow the ISP software to use
the modem)
