Default Program Not Responding

When Windows XP runs into a situation where a program is not responding and
the Windows message window is closed, why does Windows rebuild icons on the
desktop, and lose some icons in the icon tray (the missing icons reappear
when the system is rebooted). What is it doing? Kevin

Probably because explorer is the program not responding. Explorer is
the program that displays the desktop/start bar.
