Regcleaner is more suitable for someone who knows what they are doing rather
than a complete novice. You can easily remove items you should have kept. Manual registry editing is better than most software based applications, but again you need to know what you are doing. Have you been installing loads of software on your pc and then uninstalling it? Have you been accepting loads of Active X files? If the answer is no then leave well alone. -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org The information in this post is supplied "as is". The registry doesn't need cleaning. It's that simple.

The Microsoft RegCleaner is NOT compatible with XP and should not be used.

The Microsoft registry cleaner is called RegClean, as opposed to RegCleaner which is available for free also.. as with most, RegCleaner does a job, but is not as thorough as the name would suggest.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User "Jerry" wrote in message ... Egan It is safer for the novice than the one listed above it (jv16 powertools). Both are written by the same person, but RegCleaner does not display any system registry entries, it will only display entries for programs you have added,so if you mess up you can only kill one application at a time and not your whole system. Note: It does create a backup before removal just incase you need to restore it. Also as others have said this really is not needed on XP. If you decide to use this only remove entries from programs you know for a fact you have uninstalled, if in doubt leave it alone. -- Mike Pawlak |
