about 9.4 megabits per second or about a half gigabyte per minute.

Anyone who says this brilliant system is "obvious"

Isn't that too slow to be practical ?

Hi Paul,

You're generally helpful and not sarcastic so I am not sure what you're
saying, because, on the iOS newsgroup, they've been spending a week and
they still haven't solved this simple problem (their vaunted AirDrop method
keeps crapping out, for example).

USB is as fast as it gets, is it not?

Ignoring the fact that my desktop is ancient (Windows 7 vintage), do you
have a faster cross platform method that requires zero software and works
on every common consumer device?

If so, I'm all ears - but I can't imagine that you have a better solution.

If the transfer rate drops low enough, it'll be
faster to just email the photos to yourself.

That's what I mean by practical.

I could walk from coast to coast, with the boast that
"walking is free". But the time it would take to walk
from coast to coast would be a Pyrrhic victory. If someone
said, "how could you get from coast to coast for free",
then "walking" would be a bar bet solution, not a
practical one.

You could transfer files between computers, using
FSK over the audio output. As an example of a bar
bet technique. Yes, I'm doing it without cables.
Yes, just about any device could do it (even my
ZX81 which provides the inspiration for the
technique), but hell would freeze over before
I'd get my files.

The photos are simply a test case because Ant, on the iOS newsgroups, is
having a devil of a time transferring 396 photos where nospam is leading
Ant on a futile wild goose chase with imaginary functionality that even
nospam knows doesn't exist.

That's why I did the 400 test files named ant001 to ant400, but most of the
time I use this to copy scores of gigabytes of movies to the iOS iPad.

You don't seriously think we should email entire movies, do you?

That's what I mean by practical.

Thanks for explaining Paul, because I know you're not a troll.
The main use is for movies which are easy to download on Windows and then
transfer to iOS. In fact, you'll note the first testcase was a set of 14
movies that were copied from the Windows filesystem to iOS' VLC storage
space.

Since VLC is "smarter" than the default iOS apps, it allowed me to write to
its storage space without needing the trick that I forgot.

But when I ran that test of the 400 files for Ant, I realized I had skipped
the step that makes *any* visible directory on the iOS iPad wrietable.

I still haven't seen _anyone_ prove they know that trick, which is kind of
hiliarious when you think about how many people used their dunning-kruger
skills to claim this clearly brilliant method, was "obvious".

I don't mean this to be haughty to you Paul, since I know you know more
than I'll ever know, and since I'm just average in knowledge of networking
.... but.... you have to admit that it's hilarious that nobody knows what I
know about making iOS writeable - and yet - they all declare the method
obvious.

What that tells me is that people like nospam, Jason, and the others (I
don't remember them all) are actually clearly proving that they're on the
low end of the Dunning-Kruger scale of skills self assessment.

They think they're so smart - but - they can't even do what they say is
obvious. I wouldn't bother to point this out since I'm trying to help
people do what I can do - but I point it out to counter their idiotic
claims that it's "obvious".

HINT: If it's so obvious - why can't anyone actually prove they can do it?

I could walk from coast to coast, with the boast that
"walking is free". But the time it would take to walk
from coast to coast would be a Pyrrhic victory. If someone
said, "how could you get from coast to coast for free",
then "walking" would be a bar bet solution, not a
practical one.

Paul ... I get the metaphor ... but are you seriously suggesting to copy 14
standard-sized movie files by email from the Windows filesystem to iOS and
Android?

I posit that there isn't anything faster or easier than USB but if you have
a better faster easier free method then let us know.

Just please don't be like the Apple Apologists like nospam who *claim* all
sorts of imaginary functionality that *never* exists when you ask him to
name the method or to prove that it works.

Those Apple Apologists are not normal people - they're all children.

You could transfer files between computers, using
FSK over the audio output. As an example of a bar
bet technique. Yes, I'm doing it without cables.

I don't even *understand* what you wrote there, Paul.
Given you can't be serious about emailing 14 movies that transfer in
minutes over USB directly from the Windows filesystem to iOS or Android,
I'm not sure if you're not just joking.

If you do have a *better* (faster, free, easier) method than USB, please
let me know - but don't play the silly games nospam plays.

That guy nospam proves he has a fifth grade mentality in every post.

Every time you're asked to prove your guesses, we find that you're wrong.

You, nospam, have no credibility whatsoever.

I prove I do everything I say I do.

You nospam, can only prove that you have the mentality of a fifth grader.

I'm still waiting for you to tell us *how* I managed to write to iOS's file
system in directories like DCIM that are not normally writeable via USB.

And from the other Dunning-Kruger folks, I am waiting for them to tell me
what step I missed - since they all exclaimed this method was "obvious".

The fact that this group has so many fifth-grade children so full of ****
is disconcerting since all the naysayers are silent when I ask them to
simple prove how "obvious" it is to them.

The fact is the method is brilliantly simple & fantastically powerful.

So far, nobody on the planet, has a better (faster, easier, more universal)
method than the one I proposed.

It's NOT obvious - until I tell you the tricks.
Then it's obvious - but you'd never come up with them on your own.

Particularly nospam, who can only hit buttons MARKETING provided him.
