Default strange program uninstall issue, need help

I have seen this over and over on several of my XP machines and I was
wondering if anybody else has seen this.
I install a program (or several) and they show up on the Add/Remove program
list and I can remove them by clicking on the remove button.
After several week when I look, most programs suddenly don't have remove
buttons anymore and when I search the system don't have an uninstaller
program anymore.
From Norton 2003 to Microsoft Office XP and numerous other programs.

Has anybody every seen this ? What could cause this ?

Thanks,

claus

Not hit that one, sounds like a viral infection.
