Default Blue Screen in XP Pro

If I am getting a blue screen in XP Pro 32 bit, if there anywhere I
can go to see details of the error?

Is it in Control Panel / Admin Tools / Event Viewer?

How would I find out details of the problem so I can put it right?

Please post a copy of the Stop Error Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.

Most, but not all, Stop errors are recorded in the System log in Event
Viewer. The ones that are not recorded are those occurring before Event
Viewer has not started or when it is not running.

At what point does the computer restart? During or after booting? Does
the problem occur in safe mode?

If you post details of the Stop Error you will get details of published
data in response.

Gerry,

It happens when my system is working as normal I am in Win Xp, on the
web etc. Just goes dead. i get the blue screen error briefly for a
split second before it starts rebooting the system.

I will disable auto restart so I can see the error on screen next time
it happens. I will take a photo of it.

I have looked in Event Viewer but haven't seen anything in there that
I think it could be.

What internet browser are you using? Are you into gaming on the
internet?

If you haven't done so already disable automatic restart on system
failure. This should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code
properly. Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select
Properties, Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart. Do not re-enable automatic restart on
system failure.

Hope this helps.

Press your PAUSE/BREAK key to freeze BSOD messages.
Write down everything, including error codes.
(BSOD = Blue Screen Of Death)

Thanks I will have to try this next time!

I've been waiting for one for a while now and not had one until about
10 minutes ago! It only stayed for a few seconds longer and still not
enough time to get all the info.

Will try what you said of holding the Break button.

Richard,

I just tried holding down the break key,

Unfortunately it still only gives a few second and automatically
reboots.

You sure are spending a lot of tile trying things and still the error
message itself is a mystery...

Disable automatic restart on error as indicated.

There will be no picture to take, not break key to hold down or press
etc.

You don't have to write everything you see - most of it is quite
boring.

Here is an example of what to send (and actually useful):

http://techrepublic.com.com/i/tr/dow...ges/bsod_a.jpg

Usually 3 lines of text.

Then do this so there will be fewer questions about your system. Much
more info that winver and no typing mistakes:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste
back here.

There would be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name) or whatever appears to
be only your business that you can delete from the paste.
