Administrator has restricted this computer to access USB/1394 mass storage drives
Hello.
I recently purchased an Acer workstation with Windows XP SP2 installed on it. After adding it to the domain, I cant access the CD/DVD drive or any USB drives that I try to connect to it. I can't install any software either. I keep getting messages like the one of the subject of this post, and I am logged on to the computer as administrator. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Odracir |

It worked alright when I got the PC but about six weeks later the problem started. All I have found so far is under Device Manager, USB Controllers - one of the USB Root Hubs has no value in the Device Usage fields. Usually this would be either enabled or disabled. ?? It turns out that Acers ship with an utility called Acer lanScope that
sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. I have two identical machines, one is working fine and the other one is giving me the problem above. If you look on your tray there is an icon for lanScope Agent, and if you click on it, it will give you the information that will show that all your devices are locked. Supposedly you should be able to control these settings using the Acer eLock utility, but I couldn't change the settings so I had to uninstall the lanScope application and disable all the services for the Acer applications, namely the Memcheck and the Lock something something (sorry, I don't remember the full name) OEMs should stop loading their machines with their utilities. Windows works fine when alone. After I uninstalled the lanScope agent I was able to access devices again. Reg, Odracir. -- Ricardo "hamster9" wrote in message ... odracir;7750718 Wrote: Hello.
