Default A/V issues with Messenger 6.x - workaround that works ;o)

I've got at Sony DV camcorder and as a workaround i use a program called
Trackercam www.trackercam.com

1. start the trackcam program and let it find your cam (DV or not).
2. use the messenger Audio Tuning vizard and choose trackercam-driver
3. video/sound works...(hopefully ;o) )

Incdredible that Microsoft don't solve this problem and all the others... -
Messenger is not at all plug & play!!!

-----Original Message-----
I was originally running 2k, but now on XP. I never
could get an audio conversation to connect. I could
briefly hear the other person if I initiated the convo,
but they could never hear me, and the audio would then
stop.

Also, ever since MSN Messenger upgraded to 6.whatever, I
can't get it to use my Sony DV Cam, either as a Mic, or
as a cam.

The Audio Tuning wizard sees it, and I get feed during
the setup, but when I try to set it as my cam it tells

me
that no cam is connected or another program/video
conference is using the cam. I've uninstalled Windows
Messenger (never used it, and the video never worked to
my knowledge).

The kicker is, now that I've upgraded to XP, I'm having
major audio issues and can't get any sound whatsoever.

Audigy Gamer, with XP drivers and the C-media util. I'm
running Norton Anti-virus, but have it set to allow
Messger to operate always (again, video never used to be
a problem).

any help at all would be appreciated
.

addendum - I can get my DV Cam to run with Windows
Messenger 4.x. Still haveing XP/Audigy sound issues
however, and can't get mic from cam or stand-alone mic to
initialize.

In MSN messeger 6.1, my partners cam breaks up
occasionally (multiple ghost images), but I still can't
get it to use my cam.

Question remains: Use of DV cam in MSN 6.1 possible?
How do I avoid the "cam not plugged in/inuse by another
app" message, when it works in the wizard? Once I get
the cam working, how can I get sound to run (aside from
the XP/Audigy issues that I'm working on)?
