XP Pro connect to 2000 Server & NT Server domains
I can't connect my XP Pro SP1 laptop (work) to my NT Server domain at home.
At work we use Server 2000 and my laptop is set up to connect to this domain. When I connect my laptop to my home network, I cannot access shared files & directories on my NT Server 6.0 domain (different name). The home domain name does not appear when I explore "Microsoft Windows Network" under entire network. I can access other network resources such as networked printer and broadband cable internet. The DCHP server at home is a D-link ethernet broadband router. The same username and password is used in both domains. An XP workstation at home can see my work domain / computer and work domain but not vice versa. Help! |

It's better to have your server handle DHCP serving...and since you're using NT4, you should install WINS and specify the WINS server IP in your DHCP scope, with 0x8 (hybrid node). The same username and password is used in both domains. An XP workstation at home can see my work domain / computer and work domain but not vice versa. Help! Don't mess with your network settings. Can you ping your home server by IP address? By name? net use x: \\servername\share /user:homedomain\user enter |

Do you have the Client for Microsoft Networks installed/checked for this network card? Is the Workstation service started? XP Pro connect to 2000 Server & NT Server domains
I have had this problem intermittently so I don't know if this was really the
solution but: I disabled Internet Connection Firewall and I had access to the previously mapped drives but the domain still did not appear when exploring Microsoft Windows Network. 10 minutes later, the home domain appeared in Explorer and I can now navigate the full home domain.
