Default Running XP SP2 setup

I have fromatted a C drive and made the CD bootable. Setup gets to the
'Setup is starting Windows' and then hangs. There is no more CD activity.
I tried using the Microsoft '6 floppy disc method' but this hung too.
Can anyone help please?

Peter

Hi Peter---

You haven't given much info in your initial post. I'm making a related
comment about similar experience.

I had encountered this problem when trying to install XP Pro SR1 on a laptop
that only had an external USB drive. Seeing I had the option of installing
with a network cloned image, I danced around the issue. But if I were in the
same position tomorrow, I would look for an F5 type of intervention during
the boot floppy install that prompts for external drivers. Perhaps
downloading updated versions would have solved the trick.

We had the problem that the boot floppy install would proceed to the very
last disk, and would be reading from the CDROM, but then on its automatic
reboot, it would hang.

The CD drive *MIGHT* be the problem. I can't be certain, but I've used a
brand new CD drive that lasted just long enough to load Windows in the
computer, then when I started installing software, anything you would throw
at that drive would make the computer hang. I swapped CD drives and the
problem was gone.

Is this an actual XP CD or is this a slipstreamed CD you created to
integrate SP2 into the standard XP setup?

It is a slip streamed CD, but the original does exactly the same.

Thanks for your reply, I'll hunt around for some drivers.

My guess is you have some hardware or driver that is causing setup to choke.
Disconnect any peripherals connected to the system except keyboard and mouse
Also, remove any internal add-on cards except the graphics card and see if
you have the same issue. If not, continue with setup then reinstall the
devices one by one, running the system for a bit after each install to see
if anything then causes a problem for your setup.
