Default SP2-Linksys=headache

My system: Win XP HE with SP2, ethernet connection to Linksys
router
Second computer same OS with SP2, Linksys wireless adapter
Comcast cable connection

No previous troubles with internet connections on both computers until
SP2. Main machine
on ethernet cable is OK. Have not been able to configure the wireless
adapter on the second
machine. Stopping WinZeroConfig doesn't help as the Wlan monitor does
not appear on the screen to allowentering security codes with the
Linksys software. Adapter doesn't recognize the presence of a network
from the router signal. Have tried most of the "fixes" from the
michna.com page with no avail. Linksys hasn't announced any
workarounds that work to my knowledge.

Would like to hear if anyone with a similar setup has succeeded.

Sheldon,

do you mean
http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm or
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm ? Try the former.

If you use that Network Troubleshooter page, which may be your
best bet, and it didn't produce the solution, please copy the
selections line just under the form (above the three buttons)
and post it here.

I'm always happy to find anything that is not yet solved by that
web page, but I find such things only quite rarely. Hence my
interest.

Hans-Georg

Open TCP/IP properties, advanced properties, options tab, TCP/IP
filtering properties, change the three instances of Permit Only to
Permit All. Leave filtering enabled.

Problem solved. Used 'Linksys Connect' a live chat to verify that
adapter and
router were configured correctly. Had to use a dial-up on the machine
with the adapter which was painful. However the program found evidence
of two installs and corrected
this online.

The final advice was to try a different network channel which did the
trick. The down side of the connectivity problem was the time loss, but
as alwaystroubleshooting has increased my networking knowledge.
