Sys32 folder auto launching

Greetings,
I am using XP home edition (came with my Presario) and at start up my
system32 folder has begun auto launching. A friend told me that this could
indicated the my computer has been accessed from the outside. I am using SBC
DSL for my ISP for what that my indicate. Any assistance would be much
appreciated.

Check in both the Start menu startup list for an entry to
my computer. If there is one there eliminate it as it
possibly the the culprit. Also under folder properties,
check and see if it has an open to designated. other than
that the registry may have an entry in it to launch the folder.

If your DSL has a custom install CD, a procedure on it
could have instructed the system32 folder to open. I do not
use the ISP CDs for that reason. The DSL modems can be
configured separately If they an "auto-logon " modem. You'll
be able to tell if it supports this by the front panel. you
will have a separate light for "Internet" (aka PPPoE).
Most ISPs use a default IP to access that feature. Sometimes
in the 192 series, but can vary with differing providers.

Contact SBC DSL and have them send a sheet on how to
manually set up their modem. Model/manufacture of modem is
required. Once the 'autologon' modem is set up, you use the
access software as a frisby.

While this type of behavior isn't a sure sign that you have a
virus, it wouldn't hurt to run a scan with your AV program. You

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by
an incomplete program removal, in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys. It can also
be caused by an entry in these same keys that starts with a " / ."
