Default Setting up demonstration PC, want to limit access to installed programs

Hello group,

Laptop with XP Pro SP2. Will be used to demonstrate certain
applications.

I want to create a user account and then cherry-pick which of the
installed programs (which I installed as admin) can be accessed from the
limited account.

I created a limited account from the XP control panel but there is still
full access to all installed programs.

Any pointers of FAQ's gratefully received.

You have two options. Either use NTFS permissions to restrict what
applications a user can run or use Software Restriction Policies. Probably
the easiest solution for you will be to change the NTFS permissions on the
folder where the application is located so that the users/everyone groups
does not have any permissions. Most likely the applications you want to
restrict are under the program files folder. The first link below explains
more on setting NTFS permissions. The second link is on how to configure
Software Restriction Policies using Local Security Policy which is very
powerful but somehwat complex to implement. --- Steve
