Default New DVD Burner - No Software Included

I just installed a new DVD burner that I ordered from newegg. It's a Pioneer
brand, but it did not come with any software. From what I've read, Windows
XP does not have DVD burning software included, so do you have any
recommendations on free software to use? My main purpose is to use the DVDs
to backup large PhotoShop files. I do have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 on my
computer, but it doesn't seem to have any DVD capabilities.

Checkout pioneer's website look for that specific model of dvd burner, then
look under downloads for software, also look throughly in the shipping
container (my software was buried at the bottom under the styrofoam peanuts)
the burning software I mean.

Todays DVD's have firmware that talk to xp, so all you have to do is
physically install the device and it will be recognized by xp, but you still
need dvd burning software installed before you can burn a DVD, I'm looking
for software that will allow my pc to be used as a karaoke machine, also
watch DVD's on my pc any suggestions? I just bought EMC 8 , haven't had time
to read the manual (just got it today) will this allow me to watch DVD's on
my pc? or if not maybe WMP 10 will?

This is called a "brown box". Just the hardware, fella, nothing else. Some
offer a reduced price with DVD burning software which may be limited in some
fashion. As does some retail packages. If you want the full blown
software, buy it separately.

In some cases, you have to get the upgraded version from the software mfrs
website to support the DVD burner. Or, get a firmware upgrade from the same
site. Or, both.

Since you have a version of Roxio you can purchase an upgrade version of their new product at a
reduced price, search their site for product upgrades.

I see that you are attempting to use the DVD to create DATA disks of 4.7 or
9+ GB (dual layer) in size. Really useful for backup of large files. EZ
CD Creator 5 may work for this purpose if it is the proper version. I see
most of the responses seemed to think that you wanted to create a DVD video
project instead of the Data DVD.

There are many programs, free and paid, that will do what you want. If you
are going to purchase a program I do recommend upgrading the Roxio product
to Easy Media Creator 8

Thanks everyone. LVTravel is right, I want to use it for data files right
now, not video. I plan to try out a free program or two and if they aren't
so great, I'll probably upgrade my Roxio.
