Default SATA Drive

I have a dell dimension xps gen2 pc, and had orginally a 100 GB sata hard
drive installed on sata0 with XP Pro. All I wanted to do was install a second
sata drive on sata1 as a slave drive and use it for backup. When I plugged it
in and turned it on, everything went fine. I had to go to computer management
to initialize and format the new drive, but it worked fine. However, when I
shut the pc down and tried to restart, I get past the dell start up, and then
just a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. I tried
unplugging the new drive, and even updating the bios, but nothing worked.
There are no jumpers on either drive, and I have read that sata drives dont
need them. Also, I have RAID turned off, and both drives are turned on in
bios. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"However, when I shut the pc down and tried to restart..."

Did you install the new drive while your computer was still running?

Phew...I was hoping you would say that!

Could you have accidentally dislodged either the power cable or the data
cable? Happens to the best of us. (And I am certainly not in that category.)
