Default Can't install local fax printer

Hello,
I have installed "Fax Sevices" and configured them, My modem is operational,
but I cannot install the fax printer. When I click on the "install local fax
printer" button in control panel/printers and faxes, there is no response
from the PC. I have Win XP HE with SP2 integrated.

Start he

2. Why can't the XP Fax Installation Program find the Installation Files?

In this case, it sounds you may have security data base corruption as
documented he

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/
You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...name=c00270202
HP and Compaq Notebook PCs: Unable to Install Windows XP Fax Software

Note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the Esentutl.exe utility
and would prefer you try the hotfix.

The fxsapi.dll & fxscfgwz.dll files are not compressed, Search found them in
C:\windows\system32. I do not have a i386 folder in c:\windows. I do not get
any type or messages if I click on the "install local fax printer" button
(actually NOTHING happens when I press it), and according to article kb884018
I should be getting some type of error message, thus I don't thik that this
will solve my problem. Pls help
