Default FDD MTP device

I am helping a friend by telephone...

He has a fairly new computer (December) which did not have a FDD
installed originally. He has taken a working internal (not USB) FDD
from his old computer and I have walked him through installing it
properly in the computer and itemizing it in BIOS as a 1.44 MB FDD.

When XP boots, it come up with "Found New Hardware" but is recognizing
the FDD as an "MTP Device", and wants to search for MTP drivers!

Any help appreciated.
