Default Changing color schemes in PowerPoint

I use Powerpoint 2003. I am trying to edit the colors for hyperlinks and
followed hyperlinks within a presentation. I followed the help screen
instructions and was able to change and apply new colors for 'accent and
hyperlink' and accent and followed hyperlink.' But the color I changed for
the followed hyperlink now appears as background color for each slide. What
am I doing wrong here?

Thanks!
