Windows XP(Home) "Sleep" & "WakeUp" Keys & HIBERNATE.
I used to be able to use the above 2 keys on my keyboard until recently and
also HIBERNATE is not shown under Control Panel's "Power Options". I have tried Diagnostic Boot, Selective Boot and Safe Mode but Hibernate does not return. I also followed a link which suggested typing "sigverif" into "RUN" from START & searched WINDOWS, WINDOWS\system32 and WINDOWS\system32\drivers but this did NOT reveal the suggested culprit ( a WinRT.sys driver- in that case.). So I cannot find out why I cannot use the 2 Keyboard keys OR Hibernate facility. Can anyone suggest any other avenue I could try, please? |

If the problem is recent you might find that System Restore will do the
trick. Go to Start-Help and Support-Pick a task-click on System Restore link and follow the onscreen wizard to restore your computer to an earlier time. Only go back to the day prior to the problem occurring and only use this option if the problem is very recent like within the past few days. System Restore won't affect things like data files you've created or e-mail and other non system files and it doesn't affect anything in the My Documents folder but it will revert backwards so any system changes you made after the restore time will have to be redone including any software you may have installed after that restore date. System Restore in undo-able. For hibernate to function, ACPI must be enabled. Check System Devices in Device Manager to ensure that ACPI is installed and functional. ACPI must be enabled in BIOS settings (usually under Power or Power Management) and functioning when XP is installed. A repair install or full re-installation is required to configure ACPI. Also check your Windows folder for a file named nohiber.txt. This file will contain information why Windows won't operate Hibernate. In most cases, a suggestion will be offered as to how to proceed and be able to use hibernate. I'm not certain about your specific keyboard but some devices require software for special functions to work. Perhaps you need to reinstall the sftware that came with your keyboard. -- Harry Ohrn MS MVP [Shell\User] www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "Douglas.N (UK)" wrote in message ...
