Default Blank Directory Tree in Windows Explorer

I open Windows Explorer and click the "Folders" button from the toolbar to
see the directory tree at the left side pane of explorer. All I can see is a
blank left pane. I'm using Windows XP SP2

Check he

Your Windows Registry may be missing a few keys.

For Explorer Blank:
"All Folders" pane missing or Windows Explorer is blank
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q192315/

Go to Start\Run and type regedit. Press enter. Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Look in the right pane for this entry: ExplorerBar... Delete it and reboot.

For Explorer Grayed-Out
If Explorer Folder Pane Grayed Out
The problem of the Grayed out Explorer Folders Pane has been traced to a
single registry key.

To resolve the problem, download folderpane.reg file, and save it to
Desktop. Right-click the file and then choose Merge.
